This paper presents the work on autothermal fuel reforming using natural gas as the feedstock. Under design condition, an autothermal reformer operates on optimal molar air-fuel and water-fuel ratios so that designed equilibrium temperature can be achieved for maximum H_2 yield while undesirable CO, residue fuel and solid C can be minimised/fully suppressed. A computer routine is coded which is able to generate randomly various natural gas compositions whose individual constituents are fall within valid ranges. Each natural gas has gone through a simultaneous process of partial oxidation and steam reforming and the reformed H2 and CO are then used in a divergence analysis showing the effect of natural gas composition on the reformate.
