NEXcell has developed high energy density cylindrical Ni-MH batteries for large capacity and high discharge rate applications. Three different size cells, D, E and F with capacity of 9, 11 and 14 Ah, were developed High rate performance of the cells is studied, the continuous discharge rate is ranged from 3 to 5C. This paper will report the single cell testing performances including discharge/charge at different rates, charging efficiency, self-discharge, cycle life and safety test. Typical applications of these batteries are in the robot, the electric bicycle and the electric scooter, which requires high rate, large capacity, light weight and safe battery. The testing results of 24 volts battery pack used in the electric bicycle are reported.
