The centrifugal oil pumps of type Y series based on AP1610 standard are applied widely in shore oil fields and refineries and the pumps of the type is manufactured by many pump works in China. The performance improvement of the pump is significant to energy saving. The performance of one centrifugal oil pump, i.e. type 65Y60, of this series is researched experimentally under different number of blades while pumping water and viscous oil. It is found thatthe optimum number of blade is five. The relationship between slip factor and the number of blades is obtained based on the interior flow field calculations of five impellers at best efficiency points. Finally, the efficiency of pumps is predicted, and the relation between the interior flow field in the impellers and the performance is explained.
