The stability of two correponding points with the same gas and liquid flow rates respectively on the upper and lower branches of a pressur edrop hysteresis loop was examined for a trickle bed. By introducing periodical perturbation onto the gas and/or liquid flow rate, the pressure drop of the point on the lower branch can be raised to surpass that of the point on the upper branch without necessarily traversing along the loop passing through the flow pulsation point. This result bears instructive significance for industrial application.
