A new look at implementign process control technology

One of the sorely neglected factors int he production function of most manufacturing facilities in North America is the management of technology. How a company manages the selection, deployment and continuous renewal of this critical instrument can very well constitute the difference between survival and demise. This paper introduces a novel approach to manage process control technology as a corporate strategy. The approach is based on the use of a tool caled the "Technology Delivery Model" (TDM). TDM analyzes and helps implement all the functions required to make process control one of the key elements in the production life of a manufacturing company. The functions of TDM are described and the results obtained from implementing one of them in a pulp mill are discussed.
