Development of waste recycle technologies using sub- and supercritical water

A waste recycle technique using sub- and supercritical water was developed for obtaining useful substances from industrial wastes. Water under sub- and supercritical condictions was used as a reaction solvent or extraction fluid. The technique was applied to the treatment of entrails in fish waste and scallop waste, among others. The experimental parameters were investigated using a batch reactor, a semi-batch reactor and a continuous flow tubular reactor under sub- and supercritical conditions. Amino acids were produced by hydrolysis of proteins from entrails in fish waste. The largest quantities of all of amino acids were obtained at 250 deg C. THe reaction temperature was in agreement with the temperature indicating the maximum ion product of water at saturation vapor pressure. Proper control of reaction parameters is necessary in order to efficiently obtain high yield of amino acids as a useful material. The technique developed has the potential to become a useful process helping in establishing a material recycling system across various industries and production processes, with the goal to curtail emissions into the environment from industrial production processes.
