This paper proposes a method to allocate a suitable bandwidth to the real-time constraints for the aperiodic hard real-time data and the periodic data simultaneously under a timer-controlled token bus protocol or the IEEE 802.4 token bus protocol. The aperiodic data trafic is represented by the maximum arrivals in a given interval to estimate the worst case data trafic in a network together with the data trafic of the periodic data. The timer value for the hard real-time data is derived from the estimated maximum data trafic, and the timer value for the soft real-time data is derived from the its data traffic and the given timer value for the hard real-time data.
