This paper reports the fabrication of near UV-, blue-, blue-green-, and green-emittingpolyvinyltoluene- and silicone rubber-based solid scintillators with sufficient gadolinium loading tomake them attractive for the detection of thermal neutrons. Measurements of characteristic neutroninducedpulse height spectra (containing peaks corresponding to 29 keV conversion electronscoincident with gadolinium atomic x-rays), and the response of these scintillators to gamma rayswill be described. In addition, the application of these new materials to measurements of radiationfrom plutonium and uranium will be discussed.
