THE KENTUCKY PIONEER ENERGY PROJECT SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL PITTSBURGH COAL CONFERENCE

Currently under project development with financial closure scheduled before year-end2000, Kentucky Pioneer Energy is the new Global Energy 540 MW Advanced FuelTechnology—Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (AFT-IGCC) Project. Withsupport from the U.S. Department of Energy (US DOE) Clean Coal TechnologyProgram, this project includes a state-of-the-art energy facility utilizing coal andrenewable-based fuels along with advanced gasification technology to deliver efficientand environmentally superior power generation and co-production capabilities.The Kentucky Pioneer Energy project is in alignment with the US DOE Vision 21program by utilizing multi- fuels, gasification technology and co-production as buildingblocks of an advanced technology energy facility.The Kentucky Pioneer Energy project is comprised of three major systems: (1) AFTSystem (Fuel Island); (2) IGCC System (Gas Island and Power Island); and a (3) CoproductionSystem.The project will also include a 2 MW molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) and the optionfor a 6000 barrels per day (BPSD) Fischer-Tropsch line producing clean transportationfuel will be available to further demonstrate the co-production potential of syngas.The advantages of Global Energy’s advanced technology configuration are: Ability to utilize a variety of carbon sources, including high-sulfur coal; thiscontributes to the long-term vitality of the US coal industry.
