The navigation channel of Navia is designed applying a long-term evolution mdoel of tidal inlets. Nvia is a port located on the North coast of Spain, and accessed by a narrow inlet, influenced by strong tidal currents, waves and a variable morphology. To define the disign dept, the most important oceanographic processes are included in a probabilistic approach. The model alows comparing different scenarios, according to jetties length and maintenance dredging. In this way, optimum design represents a balance between capital costs and maintenance requirements. The long-term evolution model turns out to be an efficient tool for navigation channel design, and a must for optimum design.
