The benefit of a win-win strategy for cost reduction of maintenance

The paper discusses how to improve maintenance support performance and to reduce costs for customer and contractor within a maintenance outsourcing relation. The focus is on creating a holistic view, identifying affecting factors and creating a draft for a win-win strategy. The strategy is based on TQM, literature reviews and exploratory discussions with customer and contractor regarding outsourcing of jet engine maintenance for airplanes. The holistic view illustrates the different maintenance cost items for customer and contractor, and the connections between them. The identifying of affecting factors, points out the factors that are affecting the contractor's maintenance support performance, and the cost items that are influenced for customer and contractor. A draft of a win-win strategy is finally presented, regarding moderation of the affecting factors.
