Investigation into processing of bars with variable cross-sections by dieless drawing

The dieless drawing process is analysed with the disc method. A simplified system of thermal and mechanical equations is derived which yields the temperature distribution and the shape of the deformation zone. With this model it is possible to study the influence of various process parameters very quickly. The control requirements for the production of variable cross-sections are discussed. Besides theoretical investigations measurements have been performed at a laboratory plant of the MPI which are presented briefly.
