In the present paper, a new forming method that combines bending and torsion is investigated for a conductor having a rectangular cross-section. In addition, a 3D shape forming machine for a superconducting helical coil, which is an essential component of fusion experimental devices, is developed. The helical coil is wound on a donut-shaped winding core, and therefore the superconductors must be bent and twisted into a helical shape, which changes along the length of the superconductors and according to the position in the cross-section of the coil. Specifications of the newly-developed forming machine were obtained from experimental results of bending and torsion combined forming. FEM simulation was performed in order to determine a suitable direction of the forming head during forming.
