In order to produce a cylindrical shell without using dedicated dies, a cylindrical incremental drawing process in which a cylindrical shell is formed from a flat blank by means of conical incremental stretching with a single tool-path and subsequent reverse incremental-drawing with a multi tool-path in two continuous tool-path schedules is proposed and its feasibility is experimentally investigated. It is found that deep cylindrical shells can be formed from a flat blank by means of the proposed incremental-forming process. The experimental result suggests that the success of the proposed process depends much on the tool-path schedule at the incremental-drawing stage. Furthermore, it is clarified that a cylindrical shell of uniform wall thickness can be formed from a blank by means of the incremental-drawing process with a parallel multi tool-path, indicating that the proposed incremental-forming process offers promise for flexible processing from the viewpoint of metal-flow control.
