Iodine intercalation of Bi_2Sr_(2-x)Ln_xCuO_z (Ln=Nd and Sm) was carried out. The formation of the stage-1 compound was confirmed by X-ray analysis for all of the intercalated specimens. A transformation from the orthorhombic pristine phase to tetragonal intercalated phase due to iodine intercalation was observed for low Ln content. The T_c of the intercalated phase in underdoped region was higher than that of the pristine phase. In particular the nonsuperconducting specimens (with 0.6
