Extracellular matrix (ECM) have multiple effects on many biological events including cell adhesion, cell migration, differentiation, embryonic development, and tumor metastasis and so forth. Fibronectin is a major component of ECM besides collagen and proteoglygen, and is also present in the blood. The adhesion of several kinds of cells on different substrates is modulation by fibronectin. So far the effects of fibronectin on adhesion and spreading of Mandibular condylar cartilage (MCC) cells and Vero cells on cytodex-3 is unknown. Microcarrier culture technique makes high yield culture possible and practical. However, cells spreading on DEAE-dextran microcarrier are slower than that on some other materials such as polystyrene and glass. Fibronectin seems to be a suitable candidate as a modulating material in promoting adhesion and spreading. Therefore, the purpose of our present study is to evaluate the rule of fibronectin on adhesion, spreading and proliferation of MCC cells and Vero cells on cytodex-3 microcarrier.
