Open, extensible architectures which foster efficient construction and manipulation of geometric models are important to designers. In this paper we describe a mechanism that allows end-users of solid geometric modeling systems to tailor the set of available component modeling primitives, adding those shapes which may be unique to a particular company or department within a company, but which occur frequently on models. The addition of these shapes is accomplished at run-time, and the additional shape primitives have the same "look and feel" as standard system-supplied component modeling shapes. Furthermore the definition can be optimized so as to minimize storage and computational overhead.
