Effects of Human Factors Expert Testimony and Staircase Design on Allocation of Responsibility in a Premises Liability Case

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of human factors expert testimonyand staircase design on causal attribution in a hypothetical premises liability case.Participants, in groups of twelve, viewed a scaled diagram, read an accident scenario,and reviewed the qualifications of an expert witness. The accident scenario possessedfacts of a descent fall that occurred on a staircase.
