Acquistitoon of critical methocean data on the norwegian deepwater frontier

Following the 1996 award of seven deepwater licenses, the offshore industry in Norway has instituted a joint methoeorological and oceanographic (metocean) project within the Norweigian Deepwater Programme. An overall and very general data acquisition programme has been established, based on a strategy that has required the full commitment of license management in eight national and international oil companies of investiments early in the exploration phase. Becasue the consequence of excessively conservative critieria and procedures may be quite different for a deepwater producing system, it is only through a full understanding of the physical environment and accurate engineering proedures that we can hope to carry out deepwater development in a safe and cost effective manner.
