The sound level for new or modified petroleum and petrochemical facilities is usually strictly controlled in order to prevent annoyance to the neighboring community. This requirement is not only for developments in urban areas but also for the facilities in rural areas (farmhouses, etc). In the design stage, the selection of the correct excess attenuation from the facility to the neighborohood is a key feature for predicting the sound pressure level accurately. It is also necessary that the range of community noise levels due to weather conditions is predicted in the design stage. This is required to ensure the facility strictly complies with community noise requirements after completion.
