摘要

The proposed paper will present the results of an investigation carried out to study the effect of the amount of metal powder addition on the weld bead geometry and cooling rates of submerged arc welds made in plain carbon steel plates. It will be shown that for a given heat input, the weld bead features such as fusion area, deposition area, size of HAZ, bead reinforcement, bead width, and penetration are significantly influenced by the amount of powder addition. The effect of metal powder addition on the cooling rate of both, bead on plate and groove welds, will also be discussed and an attempt will be made to show that the change in cooling rate is due to the change in weld bead geometry.
