Crack propagation in IN718 at 687°C under very large symmetrical strain controlled loading (R_ε = -1) has been measured in order to identify crack driving parameters. Recorded stress - strain data was used to fit the Bodner - Partom material parameters using a least sum of squares method. The crack propagation history was used as input to a finite element model from which crack shape and cyclic plastic zone size have been determined. By prescribing the experimentally found crack advance, numerical simulations might answer the question of applicability of a variety of crack propagation laws.
