In the present paper we describe the development of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) ammonia sensor which utilizes the Rh_2(form)_4 complex as responding material. It has observed that the SAW resonance frequency shifted reversibly upwards upon NH_3 exposures at room temperature. Moreover, the greater affinity of the Rh_2(form)_4 film coating for the N-Lewis bases guaranteed a selective binding capability towards NH_3 in the presence of water vapour, allowing to monitor the concentration of ammonia gas in the head-space of aqueous solutions.
