In this paper the preparation and performances of two kinds of solid polymer actuators are illustrated and discussed. Conducting polymer fibers and conducting polymer films utilized in solid dry devices show interesting actuative properties. All fabrication steps (fiber and film preparation, solid polymer electrolyte preparation, compound realization) and experimental set-up are described. The isometric contractile stress of the actuating fibers is higher than skeletal muscle, between 1 and 15 times and the isotonic strain is of the order of 0.2%; the bending degree of the actuating film is of 180°. An overall evaluation of the PANi fibers actuative properties in wet and dry conditions and possible future developments are reported.
