We have recently considered a model in which a collection of two-level systems couples coherently to an oscillator, which then couples to a second set of two-level systems. While this model does not correspond to any presently known physical system, it is of interest in that weak higher order effects in this model can be coherently enhanced, possibly leading to novel quantum effects. One interesting effect predicted by the model is the ability of excitation to be transferred from one set of two-level systems to the other by the exchange of an off-resonant oscillator quantum. We consider briefly conditions under which the effect might be observable.
