Dynamic responses of a spherical shell in an elastic half-space

In this paper, we study the dynamic response of a spherical shell embedded in an elastic half-space when the shell is subjected to an incident plane harmonic wave. The scattered wave fields for the elastic half-space are expanded into three sequences of point source potentials , namely, one compressional and two shear potentials, which are singular at the center of the shell and satisfy the free surface conditions and the radiation conditions at infinity. The diffracted wave fields for the shell are expanded into three sequences of spherical wave functions. The traction free conditions along the inner surface of the sheel and the continuity conditions along the interface between shell and its surrounding medium are satisfied in the least square sense. Numerical results for the motions on the wall of the shell are presented.
