Out-of-Plane Seismic Behavior of Brick Masonry walls of Typical Turn-of-the-Century North American Residential Buildings

Sample brick masonry walls only tied with nails to their timber backing were extracted from an existing building and tested on a shake table. Our-of-plane resistance of this type of construction widely used at the turn-of-the-century was measured, and compared with performance when retrofitted using anchors or fiberglass strips.
