The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando Florida is a project that was many years in the making and the design of which was carefully planned and executed to provide an exciting facility. The design of a Center for the Performing Arts involves many different considerations from acoustic requirements, architectural expectations and tolerances, challenges of building a basement below the water table, concrete elements, main canopy requirements, and others. The paper discusses some of these challenges and the solutions used to design and construct this iconic facility.
