From funding to design and construction, the Cross Street Bridge in Middlebury, Vermont is an infrastructure accomplishment that can serve as both inspiration and a blueprint others desiring to integrate infrastructure improvements into the fabric of the community. This paper discusses the development of the bridge -the longest simple span spliced girder known in the US-from conceptual design through final design and construction, providing detail on the team's design-build approach and the challenges faced and overcome.
