The Equivalent Shore Method

This paper proposes a simple method to calculate the construction loads on slabs of ultistory reinforced concrete buildings. The method adopts some simplifying assumptions pertinent to the Simplified Method (Grundy and Kabaila, 1963). However, the method considers the shore and reshore flexibilities. Others factors taken into account are the construction cycle, concrete age, shore-slab interaction and the effect of concentrat4ed loads on the slabs. The formulation of the method is developed considering equivalent shores acting in between slabs. A practical example is provided for comparison and performance purposes. The method can be easily coded into a pocket programmable calculator and may fit the needs of a structural design office.
