The push-up is one of the most popular exercises used for strengthening upper-limb muscles. During push-up, both the upper extremity and the trunk play important foles in either stabilization or power generation. Among them, the elbow is an indispensable part for optimal use of hand. The elbow is an anatomically simple but functionally complex joint that acts as a compontent link of the lever arm system and it positions the hand, not only as a fulcrun of the forearm lever but also as a load-carrying joint. The daily, recreational and professional activities depend on mobility and stability of elbow joint. The independent existence of any patient who suffers from loss of joint congruity or destruction of both elbow joints as in rheumatoid arthritis will be jeopardized. Therefore the importance of better appreciation of biomechanics in elbow joint is reflected in clinical practice [Morrey 1993]. Nonetheless, there is a paucity of kinematic and kinetic data regarding this activity because of difficulties in measurement [Donkers 1993]. The goal of this investigation was thus devoted to the biomechanical analysis of the elbow joint during push-up.
