Like the mature heart, the embryonic heart grows to adapt to changes in loading conditions (Clark et al. 1989). Currently, the mechanical factors that regulate this prowth are poorly understood. Determining the form of a biomechanical growth law for the myocardium requires quantitative measurements of growth under perturbed loadings.
