A CASE HISTORY FROM THE NORTHEAST NETHERLANDS ROTLIEGEND GAS PROVINCE

A string of recent discoveries on a NW-SE structural trend located west of the Groningen field has so far resulted in reserve additions of some 130 × 10~9 m~3 of gas, reversing the classical creaming curve of a mature exploration province. These successful exploration results attest to the power of modern 3D seismic to reveal direct indications of both the presence and extent of gas accumulations in Rotliegend prospects and also greatly helped to develop new sealing concepts, which drastically upgraded the prospectivity of the area.
