Compared to the conventional engine cooling system, the new engine cooling system called «REROM » is a breakthrough in engine cooling and has got several advantages : cost reduction until -15%, weight reduction up to -30%, fuel consumption reduction until -5% and thermal comfort improvement.. The breakthrough is achieved by a low coolant flow rate, a low circuit pressure, a controlled use of evaporative cooling and an underhood inlet air control. Engine tests, vehicle tests and 3D thermohydraulic calculations are used for the feasibility and the sizing. Specific low cost and low weight components are developed, mounted and integrated on two vehicles : a gasoline engine 1.2 and a diesel engine 1.7 SDL These vehicles are then evaluated in terms of engine cooling, thermal comfort, fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.
