Progress on the very early time electromagnetic (VETEM) system

The VETEM system is a pulsed, time-0domain system, as are most ground penetrating radar (GPR) systems. The design objectives for the system include: (1) deeper penetration into electrically conductive ground than can be obtained with conventional GPR systems, (2) better resolution in the first 5 m thean can be obtained with conventional electromagnetic systems, and (3) response to both dielectric permittivity and electrical conductivity. VETEM field data respond both to changes in electrical properties of the ground and to buried objects. Responses from conductive objects buried at depths exceeding the antenna spacing have been observed.
