On Stakeholder Involvement in Environmental Restoration

Risk management has gained a significant amount of attention from both policy makers and the public over the past several years, as the interaction of technology and policy choices become more predominant in the evaluation of trade-offs in a democratic society. This is particularly so in decisions regarding the management, disposal, and cleanup of hazardous wastes throughout the United States. The National Research Councill [1] has recommended that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) incorporate all relevant stakeholders in the decision-making process from the start, specifying an analyticdeliberative process for dealing with environmental managemnt decisions.
