Experimental study was carried out on transient behavior of a reversible pump-turbine during sudden load rejection by using a motor-driven pump-turbine with short pipe line. Transient operations after a load rejection were realized with the aid of computer controlled inverter system. The dynamic relations of total pressure to flow rate were compared with the quasi-steady one. As the result of the present study, it was found that the transient performance of the pump-turbine shows a quite different change from quasi-steady one at quick change in operational condition. And also test results showed the present method may be applied to transient tests of pump-turbine during a load rejection.
