Tackifying resins are a primary component of many adhesive systems. These resins can be characterized as amorphous, low molecular weight polymers having high glass transition temperatures. The polymers are typically comprised of at least two monomers that individually contribute, in varying degrees, to molecular weight, softening point, and polarity. These parameters all determine the usefulness of the resin in adhesive applications. Reaction conditions such as temperature, monomer concentration, and initiator concentration also play a role in determining resin properties.
