Strength of adhesion correlations over the entire series were surprisingly poorly predicted by the calculated polar force components and total values of the materials' surface free energies, themselves otherwise well-correlated with water contact angles alone. The calculated dispersion-force components of the substrata were best correlated with the actual measured push-off shear strengths for their contact-frozen attached water droplets. The empirical graphical engineering technique of Critical Surface Tension (CST) determination, influenced by all surface energy components, produced values well-correlated with the ice-detachment shear forces, and can be recommended for practical material evaluations since it is independent of variable specific surface-energy theoretical assumptions.
