Hog-hair, a kind of water insoluble fibrous proteins, consists of more ninety weight percent #alpha# -keratin from ectodermal cells. Its long peptide linkages curl up into a spiral-structure unit that provides a relatively high dielectric constant. Microwave radiation can be absorbed deep into the dolding layers of #alpha# -keratin to loosen the bond knots in between the units and makes them twirl rapidly. This reaction results to hasten the hydrolysis reaction forware approeciably faster than the traditional acidsolution-methods.
