A theoretical model is constructed for a large deflection analysis of a rigid-perfectly plastic bent cantilever with a tip mass loaded by a dynamic transverse follower force applied to its tip. The purpose of constructing and analysing such a model is to provide an analytical basis for studying unconstrained pipe whip. The equations for travelling hige phases are derived and solved numerically. Pipe kinetics and deformation are deducted and comparisons are made to one pipe wip test.
