An update on project S. T. A. R.: zero waste program at chaparral steel

In the past decade, the steel industry has made environmental issues a major focus. Steel companies in all parts of the world are working to reduce waste in their processes and Chaparral Steel is no different. Zero waste programs have become a major thrust for our company and have resulted in significant cost reductions over the years. This dissertation will provide an update on the recent changes at Chaparral Steel and on progress within our STAR project concerning steel slag, automobile shredder residue, baghouse dust, and solvents.
