A methodology for estimating passive solar and energy saving potential in urban areas using aerial photographs and census data

The paper presents a methodology allowing local authorities in Italy to estimate the energy consumption for space heating of the existing building stock,as well as the potential for saving energy through the adoption of energy conservation and passive solar strategies.Such a methodology requires the knowledge of the characteristics of existing buildings:morphology,construction features,and thermal properties.
