CASI data has been collected over two lakes in Sweden. In this paper some statistical properties of CASI spectral data are discussed. The data compression capabilities of principal component analysis (PCA) and the quality of the corresponding approximations are demonstrated. Some aspects of the generality of the compression are discussed. The problem of findling good universal retrieval variables, when there is a high level of covariance between the interesting water paramters is also discussed. Further, PCA is used as a stabilizer for subsequent regression analysis in order to find retrieval algorithms for chlorophyll. An example of the agreement between CASI spatial data and field measurements of fluorescence is presented.
