Molecular Distillation: An Analytical Tool for Heavy and Extra-Heavy Crude Oil Assays

Molecular distillation has been a term primarily used as a physical separation technique for generating high temperature cuts of heavy and extra-heavy oils. The advantages of using molecular distillation (short path distillation) for heavy and extra-heavy crude oils assays are based on obtaining high temperature cuts (up to 600deg C) on a preparative scale and without thermal degradation or cracking of the sample.
