In this paper, the application to oil production in Leng 43 extra heavy oil reservoir block of electric heating of crude oil using hollow sucker rods is introduced. Leng 43 reservoir is an extra heavy oil reservoir. It has a depth between 1,250 and 1,450m. Its temperature is 48deg C and the viscosity of its dead oil at 50deg C is between 11400 and 25,600mPa centre dot s. Before adopting the electric heating of crude oil using hollow sucker rod, we could not produce crude oil successfully. The equipment of electric heating using hollow sucker rod is mainly composed of special transformer, control box, hollow sucker rod, special wireline and hollow circumfluent pump. Up to December 1996, 151 wells had been put into production by means of electric heating of crude oil using hollow sucker rods, with steam stimulation in the oil reservoir. Good results were achieved.
