The original Record of Decision (ROD) for the marzone Site specified pump-and-treat with discharge to infiltration trenches as the groundwater remedy. Because of advances in remedial technologies, the U.S. EPA has been receptive in allowing for the evaluation of alternative remedial strategies. Numerical groundwater modeling was completed to evaluate flow-through reactive treatment wall technologies as an alternative to the initial remedial design. Flow Modeling was simulated with MODFLOW (McDonald and Harbaugh 1988). Advective particle tracking was completed with MODPATH (Pollock 1989) to screen possible treatment wall construction alternatives.
