To a great extent, alternative fuels-particularly electrical propulsion-have been seen as a means for improving local air quality without much consideration of the overall environmental impacts. hence the main focus has been on emissions from the vehicle whereas less emphasis has typically been placed on the overall overall fuel cycle emissions (that is, emissions in conjunction with the total fuel cycle from primary energy to end use).
