Recent Advances in Defining Safety in Lithium-Ion Cells

The lithium-ion batten' program at Rayovac focuses on the development of cylindrical and prismatic cell designs. Lithium-ion cylindrical cell development work was aimed at developing BB-X590 battery for US Army communication applications. An 8Ah high energy density prismatic cell was developed under NSWC sponsored programs. In this paper, we review the safety characteristics of both cylindrical and prismatic lithium-ion cells developed at Rayovac.
