ASME PTC 46, "Performance Test Code on Overall Plant Performance", which governs the determination of plant heat rate and power, discusses the fundamental performance equations in Section 5 [Ref. 1]. PTC 46 advises the user of the Code that some factors in the fundamental performance equations can be multivariate in nature. The experienced power plant thermodynamicist, in developing the correction curves, must then determine for the specific plant configuration under consideration, how best to represent each correction factor so that it maintains its mathematical independence from the other correction factors.
